Carbon monoxide detectors are mandatory in all California dwellings

Listen up: Make sure you have carbon monoxide detectors in your home; On all levels and outside of all bedrooms.  It’s the law!!

As of July 1, 2011 every homeowner in california is required by law to install carbon monoxide detector in their homes.  “Carbon monoxide is a silent killer, year after year claiming lives up to an average of 400+ people a year and sending well over 20,000 people to emergency rooms across the nation.”  Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless gas that is produced from heaters, fireplaces, furnaces and many types of appliances and cooking devices.  The best way for homeowners to stay protected from carbon monoxide is to have a detector installed on every floor and outside each sleeping area.  Most homeowners have smoke detectors or at least they are suppose to, but I honestly can’t say I know many who have carbon monoxide detectors in their homes.

For those that own multi-family units or rental dwellings, such as apartment buildings, have until January 1, 2013 to comply with the law.

There will be a special segment on the new law on www.wetalkrealestate.com this monday at 6:00pm with Butch Grimes & Victor Jackson. Call in and ask a question at # 310-834-0210.
